$11M Upgrade Transforms 16 Central Coast Sportsgrounds With New Lighting

The NSW Government is funding an $11 million project to upgrade 16 sportsgrounds across the Central Coast region. The work includes installation of new lighting, drainage and irrigation systems intended to support local clubs that use the grounds.

The Central Coast Academy of Sport has operated since its establishment in 2004, providing support for emerging athletes across the NSW Central Coast region for over 20 years. Upgraded facilities at sportsgrounds can complement the academy's work by offering improved training environments for young participants. Central Coast Sports College has also produced recent results, with both its boys' and girls' CIS sides securing grand final victories and six student athletes representing the NSW Kiwis.

Broader Support for Clubs and Teams

Local clubs stand to gain from the enhanced drainage and irrigation, which help maintain playable surfaces. The lighting component extends training options beyond daylight hours, a direct benefit for teams preparing for competitive seasons. These changes occur alongside other developments in Central Coast sport, including the men's team at the Central Coast Mariners signing 24-year-old defender Kristian Popovic ahead of the 2026/27 Isuzu UTE A-League season. Separately, the A-League Women program remains in limbo after Total Soccer Growth Holdings acquired the Mariners without including the women's side, with the APL continuing to seek a new investor before the July 31 deadline.
